Back to myself

What a time. I just haven’t stopped working. I hate that my art has been on hold. I have one painting sitting here which I started before Harvey could walk. Shame. Well yes, but so much creative stuff has happened.

On the community front I have started up an Arts Project based at Gold Coast Drug Council called Inter Urban Arts. The project vision is " A city where art, culture and community are valued and embraced as pathways to health and well being"

We have been running a program called DRASTIC which employs amazing young mentors who have overcome adversity to work with young people who are what they say "at risk". I don’t really know what that means just young people who have a lot on their plate. Just being young can be pretty risky. It really is a great program where people can hang out, be themselves and learn about themselves and each other as well as produce some amazing artworks. There is another one coming up on August 22: to register call 0432058158

We also did a Graffiti Prevention mural in Stoner Park in Merrimac. It was a beautiful process, even though I was reluctant at times to fill up all available space in order to prevent Graffiti. I think once I let go of the beauty of the sparseness of the original picture below I was happy with the result. I was so privileged to work with Ian Delaney who is a Nugi and Nunukal man from Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) and Matt Eddlebuttle and amazing stencil artist.

Currently we have secured funding from Arts Queensland to deliver a Public Art Project for Elanora Skate Bowl. It would have to be the craziest bowl I have ever seen, apparently when kids fall in they can’t get out. Neither can the ambo’s rescue people when they are injured!!! That is the word on the street anyway. So once all the problems are sorted out we will get going on the arts project there.

I did a United by Stylz wearable art project and performance for National Y outh Week with a group of young people from Inter Urban Arts and some fantastic arts workers. I promise I will post flix soon. But I need to post flix of another project I did at the same time a sorry business project with YFS in which we painted some Russian dolls

I was asked by Mc Que to exhibit in the She Got Game After Party at the Laundry in Fitxroy Melbourne. I sent Miss Murray Cod but unfortunately did not go myself. I was pretty stoked to show works with Spice and Yoinks who would have to be some of Australia’s best female Graff artists. So it was cool to see little ol Miss Murray Cod there. Check out where it says Miss Murray Cod on the poster!

On the home front things have not been cupcakes and fresh fruit breakfasts, That is something I gotta work on. I have taken some time off to be at home more instead of traveling 200km 2-4 times a week…. I am hoping this will mean, more healthy breakfasts, more quality time with my partner and our bubba boy, a little light exercise, more trips to the park and might even get my 2 and a half year old off bottles and dummies and out of my bed. (I hear a whole mob of mothers sigh in understanding and another mob gasp in horror). So far so good. Despite all the craziness things are pretty good really, they could always be a lot worse and I certainly can still dream about better days ahead with cupcakes and fresh fruit breakfasts.

I have also added some flix of the recent Traffic Signal boxes on the Gold Coast

The original design….

Peace out world

I held my very first art day for 2008 today. Spending the whole day with the Cod Lady was such a luxury, no baby, no Cod Dad just me and Miss Murray. I listed my favourite set of Miss Murray Cod dolls on etsy (click link)

They are features in my shop alongside the Stencil Girls set that I listed a few days ago.

I have held on to the tracksuit set for nearly two years and today I decided it was time to launch them to the world. Miss Murray Cod is sporting her whole adidas originals collection. The stencil set are new, the designs are stenciled on in spray paint, through netting and fabric and cut out stencils.

I have also nearly finished another set of dolls which I can not wait to show you all, they might even become my new favourites.

I am anticipating  next thursday when the Cod Lady and I can hang out some more, Seems crazy only having one day a week together, but it is so special. Since I have been a mother I am so very grateful for the time I get to spend on myself and my art as this time is so precious and rare but so are the moments I get to spend with my son. He just keeps growing and changing and I can never get these moments back.

Here is one of the moments we spent together on the back stairs this summer.

I now have a WEBSITE please visit me at www.missmurraycod.com

I am still in limbo about what I will do this year but have decided to focus one day a week on my art. Miss Murray Cod will be delighted if I can commit some more time to her , she is hoping to get out and about and meet lots a crew and has been suggesting we do a bit of national and maybe international travel this year and I am looking forward to tagging along with her.

We had a fantastic Christmas, spent it with Coddad’s family, so we were surrounded by little cousins. I did my usually last minute handmade effort for Chrissie presents and made the kids “COUSINS” t-shirts in all different colours. We sprinkled oats and glitter on the grass for the reindeer’s and left a beer out for Santa. Coddad did his first middle of the night children’s play equipment assemblage half tanked and announced that he had just completed a “parents rite of passage.” he then followed up the next day by making the most amazing Christmas lunch, I have featured his pumpkin pinenut and stuffed squash flower salad and his amazing glazed ham.

On the art front, I painted another box just on the new year it is called shallow waters and is at Capalaba on old Cleveland road.

I sold my graffiti girls, so i am very happily packing them off to Melbourne.  I am about to complete another set of dolls and they are very cool so keep posted.
